Hi! I’m Chandra. I normally live in Connecticut, but I love to travel. But I travel to see the ancient sites and learn the history of the world around us. People are amazing, and what they created 1000, 2000, 3000 or more years ago just staggers me. Come see the amazing things the world and people who lived here thousands of years ago accomplished.

I started this blog on a whim because I travel a lot and I want to share some of that with someone out there. Also, I think I have an unique perspective on the world. I used to be an archaeologist, so I approach a lot of what I see from that perspective. So you’ll see me spending a lot of time talking about how that places I visit communicate their stories with the world. I also am not a professional traveler. I’m not a travel-blogger, travel-influencer, or travel-writer. I’m a person who travels. I don’t believe that there is one “right” way to travel. Staying at a hostel versus a four-star hotel? Both valid. Eating at a fancy restaurant versus street food? What were you in the mood for. I don’t believe the only way to see Machu Picchu is by hiking the Incan trail for a week to get there. Maybe because I’m not fit enough?

I like photography, but I also don’t pretend to be good at it. I don’t like using filters since I’d rather just capture what I see, so you can see what the location is like. I like to take pictures of the fiddly bits of archaeology and architecture. I like weird stuff that I don’t understand but strikes my eye. I can’t explain a lot of what I take pictures of, other than, it caught my interest. Also, cats. Lots and lots of cats.

I’d like to think this blog is a blog for those generally interested in history, archaeology, and architecture (and cats.) Those who are the casual traveler who wants to see the world but finds other travel blogs too intimidating (who has three weeks to travel by donkey through the hills of Tuscany? Rent a car or take the train!) Those who want to see things that may be a little off the beaten path but don’t require a multi-day rafting trip. Just casual and honest and fun. Trips that have access to regular showers and the occasional fancy dinner, but don’t shy away from eating chicken butts on a stick in Taiwan.

If you read my bio, this isn’t my job. I help run a small consulting firm and spend at least a few hours every day on these trips doing my real work. But after a couple decades of these kinds of trips, I thought, maybe someone might enjoy my musings. I’m going to have pages that go into more detail about my attitude toward travel, I’m going to actually (finally) write down my “Dear Location” bits, and I’m going to post some of my better pictures. I’m going to do full pages for some of my major trips or favorite places (Morocco will have a lot since my husband’s from there and I lived in Barcelona for about six months, so it’ll get a page) but if you are interested in any topics, let me know. Not that I think anyone will read this - I’m talking to the wind. But maybe someone might think it’s interesting. If you do, get in touch!
